Stolen from Milliways, the other game that eats my soul on a regular basis and makes me enjoy it.

Because I know all of us could always use a little affirmation, and several of us could use it right now, I present the love meme. Comments are posted to this entry, each with a player's name (they were in alphabetical order, but I decided halfway through to add in former characters, so now they're not). Please comment to each subthread with anything nice you wish to say about that player.

Note 1: anonymous is not required, but if you want it, partake!

Note 2: wank and/or unfriendliness will be deleted.

Note 3: this meme is open to our readers, not just our players. That's why it's posted here and not in the player comm.

Note 4: Comments intended for Lorna and Terry's player should be emailed to her if you know her address, please.

Note 5: If you can't see your thread, it's been pushed off the first page. Just in case you didn't notice those little numbers there. ;)

I'm not pleased that I got the creepy Carnivale clowns.

We both got creepy clowns! I think Kate has it out for us.

It's it's a not so subtle assessment of our playing ability.

No one else pushes me to write beyond my comfort zones quite like Dex, and that's a good thing. His characters are layered and multi-faceted, even Garrison, who has not been around long enough to acquire the history and experience that usually goes along with such developments, and that's very cool.

You have taken the burden of playing two absolutely opposite-ends-of-the-spectrum characters and making it work. Garrison is all about the rulebook, and Remy thinks rules were made to be taken out in the back alley and curbstomped.

You've also managed to throw in inspirations from comics canon without making them an overly-clever "See what I did there?" or disposable name-dropping. Also, much like the gremlin, you should never be plotted with after midnight. Because that's when the drugs kick in and before you know it there's a horde of reptiles infesting the movie theater and fucking with your popcorn.

I'm just going to say what first springs to mind, here - I am absolutely loving the Remy/Ororo stuff. It's bringing out a side of Remy we've never seen before, and his reactions are just fantastically interesting to read.

And at some point, he WILL get that email from Scott. ;)

Echoing Erin, no one pushes like you do. And I hate you for it while I'm writing the log. But I go back and read and love the results, and it was always worth the strain because I come out of those hard logs feeling like a better writer.

You go places that I would never even dream of, and I respect that. Even when I'm reading a log and have to cover my eyes and scream.

You also always do the unexpected, when I think that something's going to happen, you alwasy pull a 180 and keep both your characters from becoming stale or boring.

You throw more curve balls my way than I ever think to expect - and I love each and everyone of them. Whether chatting, logging or plotting, you always keep me on my toes.

I've always admired you as a writer and even more so once I got into the game. You managed to take both Garrison and Remy and have them be so real and so different at the same time. No matter what you do with the characters (you have no idea how much I loved you for that horse scene in 'Superhero'), I always end up loving it.

You provide a much needed sense of grey to this game. For you, nothing is cut and dry. You're not afraid to push the line and challenge all of us to consider the ambiguities and the canon barely even mentions. I love it. (You also opened your home to me and plied me with beer. I can't thank you enough.)

You've got an uncanny sense of how to avoid the pratfalls, traps, dead ends, blind corners, and stale conventions that come with playing someone like Remy. You've kept him fresh, kept him growing, and I never once thought "Well, this is him taking the easy way out".

I've hit those pratfalls, traps, dead ends, etc and it's always inspiring and motivating to watch you dance around them and leave them in your dust.

I don't know what to say, really. Remy makes me wonder how much more trauma you could possibly pile onto him. And I'd like to see more Garrison.

You're phenomenal. I've told you that about 90 times in the last couple of months so I'm sure its effect is wearing off, but you're just such a great writer and you have such a talent for plots and you're a huge reason that Illyana's coming back at all, let alone in her usual, dysfunctional fashion. :) But apart from that, I love Remy. I NEVER liked him in comics, but you took the annoying weird guy and kept his best bits and made him, like, the super-assassin-spy-man, and I love that. Much like with Pete, I love everything Remy says.

And, Garrison is Ryan Reynolds, so I have a crush on him, basically. (Okay, kidding.) But he's so Canadian, and I love the way he plays off the other staff.

Your mind is sharp and twisty and probably dangerous. Or its creations are, at any rate. Almost everything you write seems to have a surreal and unpleasant edge, but I love it. A big part of why your writing is gripping and compelling to me is your knack for characterization. Your characters feel like flesh-and-blood living people, and I never fail to emotionally engage with them. That humanity amidst the horror, for me, is what makes your writing truly shine.

You've made me actually care about Gambit, a character for whom I normally have nothing but contempt. And I find Garrison wonderful and funny and sympathetic. And the horse was awesome.

Amazing writer, truly admirable. It's good to see a Remy in play here. He's certainly a dark character and it's great to see you stick to that instead of the more romanticized version of Gambit that we're seeing in comics as of late. As for Garrison, the guy's got a great sense of humour, so witty. Love his interaction with Marie.

Y'know, coming to all these late, it's very hard to say things that others haven't already said. Remy is the character I'd most like to be playing, were I not playing Pete, and while I don't think I could play Gar, he does impress in much the same way...

Even later than most, and I have a lot to catch up with, but I do have stuff to say that's not the same as everyone else. ;)

Character-wise, you never take the easy route with either of your boys, and that makes them all the more real-seeming. Remy crippled was some of the best work you've done, and Garrison is just so much fun. Even if you keep using stuff from RL - don't think I didn't notice the mac and cheese!

However, your contribution to the game goes well beyond playing in it. You've brought in new people - at least five off the top of my head, and I'm probably missing some - and brought back others who have drifted away. You go out of your way to welcome in new players with plots and interaction opportunities - Mask of Ozymandias is a great example of that, and really gave Erin and Marie a foothold in the game - and you're never afraid to have your character look silly or less-than-perfect in the name of helping someone else out.

X-Force, the Wiki, and directly advertising empty socks on the various pimp comms - these are all your ideas, and without your particular way of getting people to become enthusiastic about something, all of these would have died, like so many other ideas that have been had over time. You care about this game, deeply so, and that makes you want to see the best of it.

You have ideas. So many ideas. I talk about the Plot Demon, you have a veritable Plot Fountain - all you need is a couple of characters and you come up with a plot. It's something I'm in awe of, actually, and something I love to watch, especially in the Griffin after a couple of beers. Those sessions we have, were we spend hours talkign XP and the various things we're doing and want to do? Are some of the most fun evenings I have. Whcih is sad and pathetic, I know, but neener. ;P

Creator of one of my favourite plots! *grins* Remy's 11 was truly fantastic, and I had a huge amount of fun writing in it.

You're a great writer, mate. I'm really liking Garrison at the moment. Especially the interaction between him and Marie.
