So.

I couldn't agree more with [livejournal.com profile] katschei. I was afraid of speaking up before, because there's just so many people who deserve to be mentioned.

I'll mention Cable, and whoever plays him. Preplotting. How much preplotting are you doing?! It is unbelievable how many layers there are to the story. It reads like a whole novel of its own, and I am deeply awed and amazed. You took a character from the comics who was a walking fanboy dream and whose background was convoluted only so the X-Men could save the world past, present and future, and made him human.

So, there. I picked one.

I second everything you said and then some. You and me should just take turns telling everybody how much we love them, until every player has a special "squealing over them" post. I am absolutely serious.

Well, mostly.

Hmmm... we could award a prize once per week.

Best character development
Best log
Cutest line

The like...

It should be doable, no? :-) It would certainly be more fair.

Or we could just squeal uncontrollably, like the fangirls we are.

Damn, I need an X-Men icon for my sockpuppet. (Too lazy to log off and on again)

Oh, let's do that, let's do that! And then we can feel like we're contributing! /silly/

Well, I don't think you'd see a single one of us complaining about that one. ;)

Oh, Alison. I love Alison. Such a cool transition from pop star to X-leader, a thing that could have been such a "What-the-hell?" moment, which, thanks to superb characterization and character development throughout the game, made absolute sense.

And she always makes sense and she could so beat up Nate, and she's the coolest mom in the world. Doesn't hurt that she's also hella cute. :D (Also? The posts after Asgard, with Woe!Alison and her poor hair! Socute.)

Want your own comment about why Lorna's magnetic personality makes her the most attractive person in the game?

*preens* If you insist. But there are bunches of other people who deserve love too. Probably more than the girl who gets to pun her compliments. *g*

I'll lavish love on anyone who comments on this thread, then. Seriously. I will.

Lorna is probably the most human character in the game. That's a compliment. She's got problems she's working through, and it's taking time, and she messes up sometimes, but she picks herself up and tries again (or rather you pick her up and make her try again :)). She doesn't get credit for how hard she has to work to overcome her emotional problems. No one comments on how maybe obsessive baking isn't the best thing for a recovering anorexic to be doing. She has enormous patience (by which I mean, she hasn't wrapped Manuel in a steel girder and dropped him in the lake). She has enormous grace, and an extremely talented player, and always comes across as a real human being, complete with mistakes and problems that don't always get noticed thanks to world-rocking crises everyone else is always having. That is what I admire most about your writing: you've built a character I could see breathing here in the real world as well in the game-world.

Doesn't hurt, of course, that she dates Alex, can leave Remy tongue-tied, tease Haroun with impunity, kill you with her brain, fly, wear as much tight black leather as she pleases, KICK MAJOR ASS, and still have dinner on by five.

Preplotting. How much preplotting are you doing?!

Scary amounts. *grins* Alicia is one of those big arc plotters - this is the mind that brought you Thermopylae. :) However, some of my favourite Nathan moments are the spur-of-the-moment ones, the little logs that add layers to the character, like fighting with Haroun over teaching styles and the all-too-rare moments on camera with Rahne.

And it doesn't hurt that she's willing to let the rest of us play with her plots. The interactive component makes things all the more layered.

I... just...no words. Honestly, there isn't anything more I could wish for than that. It's what I'm trying to do with her and...wow. I'm going to be over here being flattered into speechlessness.

Oh, you totally reminded me I have a log that should have gone up. I'm such a moron.

So who else are you going to compliment? *likes reading these*

Lorna, of course, demands Alex (I swear, it's like she's absurdly in love with him or something). But I want to hear it for the awesomeness that is Paige.

You're not going to lack volunteers. I guarantee it.

A Life of Layers

((Don't how accurate, or, um, coherent, this is as 1. I haven't read all the logs posted since February (when I lost my Internet connection) and 2. It's 6 am and I haven't been to bed yet. I'll try to write you something better, which may take a few days, as this looks to be a Hellish Weekend with no time for sleep. :cries: But, um, for now, this is what you get. Sorry, Paige, you'll get something better when I'm not awake only by the grace of a caffeine IV.))

Paige is special. Which is hokey-sounding, but true. She's the girl who would do anything, be anything for you: but deep down she's doing it for one reason: she needs you to need her. She draws strength from fixing your problems for you, and the end of the world will come when she asks for help with hers. She needs to be independent, and she needs to be needed. She needs to be stronger than her brother, and wants to be an X-Man because she finds value in herself by protecting others. She needs to be stronger than you. And she must be in control. It's why she rejected Angelo's proposal, because instead of seeing it for what it was, him telling her how much he needed her, she saw it as an attempt to control her. And Paige rejects anything she sees an attempt to control who she is. Or anyone who tries to control her. Like her brother Sam, who, by attacking the people she loved, unwittingly became someone she could take out her frustration with things she couldn't control on, without anyone guessing that was the deep-down reason. And Sam didn't need her, not like Jono and Angelo and Sarah did, so it was okay.

Her power is appropriate because she loves to hide behind the happy mask. Little does she know, the only person she's hiding from is herself. Others think she pretends bad things don't exist, when in reality, she's all too aware of them, and has no coping mechanism. How does Paige cope with stress? Honestly, now.

Well? I'm waiting.

Paige is the character you bite your fingernails watching, because you want so much for her to have a happy ending (or, better yet, no ending at all) , knowing all the while that because of who she is, who she's built herself to be, that it can never happen. But you want it to work out for her so badly. You want to fix all her problems even though you know she'd never even let you try. I break my own heart watching her, because someone as beautiful and good as her deserves only wonderful things, but she's self-destructive and ultimately self-sabotaging. She took pleasure in hiding her problems and didn't freak out until people called on her act.

So, in summation :g:: Paige: the girl we've all been or dated or loved, whose problems we can't fix, and whom we love too much not to try. It's possible she's also played by a god, for what else could create such a deeply layered person, too complicated for me to fully understand her, even now, yet somehow able to accept that fact.

*applauds* So bloody true - a wonderful description of a wonderful character. And yes, we're all killing ourselves with worry about Paige here, even if some of us don't particularly show it.

Beyond anonymous cookies, of course. ;)

...well, wasn't this a cool thing to wake up to. :) Firstly, thank you - my ego's purring, I think. Do egos purr? :) - and secondly... yeah, lots of preplotting. I love the long-term stuff. *grins*
