Tink joined in 2015 with Darcy Lewis, then brought April Parker in (2021) and Illyana Rasputin (2022).

1) What brought you to X-Project?

When Chris joined with Alison, the combo of Chris, Twiller and Frito, and eventually Cai convinced me to app as well.

2) What keeps you in X-Project?

Writing some really epic stories. Being pushed to get better at writing and really get into the heads of my characters.

3) What's a moment that has really stuck with you that you wrote?

I really liked my writing for the events surrounding Arise X-Man. Seraph and Dex really pushed me to write better and really get into Darcy's head.

4) What's a moment that has really stuck with you that someone else wrote?

Alison and Terry going super destructive on the crabs in Baltimore.

Crab Destruction! )

5) What is something about X-Project that you really like/enjoy?

Getting to write with people I've come to consider friends. The Texas contingent occasional meetups when a big group of us lived in the same area. Hanging out with people from the game in general. :)

Jeff joined in 2011 and took on Sam Guthrie and Sarah Vale. Then the relaunch happened and in 2015 he dropped both characters and took on Bobby Drake and Bobbi Morse. At the moment, he is playing Inez Temple, who he just picked up in 2022.

1) What brought you to X-Project?

I'd played a lot of journal RPs, going back to the days of GJ, but stopped for a long time. Then I saw a former player, Nat, share an ad for Sam Guthrie that caught my eye. I didn't apply right away, and when I did it was for Sarah Vale, but that was what first got me interested in the game.

2) What keeps you in X-Project?

That y'all tolerate me and allow me to stay. xD Seriously though, even when I've been absent for long stretches (and I have, to be sure), I always feel like I belong and am welcomed back as if I hadn't left. There really is a sense of being part of a family here, not to sound too cheesy or anything... and getting to meet a bunch of fellow XP folks back in the pre-COVID days was awesome too and definitely helped. :) The writing is amazing as well and it's humbling to be able to contribute to it in some small way when I get off my butt and participate. ^^;;

3) What's a moment that has really stuck with you that you wrote?

My mind has to go back to the logs between Sarah Vale and Layla back in the day. It was a challenge to try and write her accurately / realistically, especially in her relationship, and I had a lot of fun doing that. So many super long logs!

Like this one!

Layla and Sarah, early Saturday morning )

If I had to pick one moment in particular, it'd be when Sarah left a make-up note on the toaster after the dust incident after Pixie's bday I think it was?

It's part of this thread, you need to read it all to get the full effect.

4) What's a moment that has really stuck with you that someone else wrote?

It's hard to pick just one... I'm gonna have to take the easy way out and say the entire series of logs for the Dark Phoenix / Phase 1 to 2 transition, because damn, there was so much good writing in there. So much. And it was such a pivotal moment for the game, and here we are almost 10 years - a decade later - and still going strong? Dang.

5) What is something about X-Project that you really like/enjoy?

The people. Another cop out answer maybe, haha, but I love you guys. Shoot, I think I've been in this game longer than my wife has been living with me / moved up here. I don't think I could ever leave, and I'm so grateful that you let me stay even when I languish and go silent. I'm really glad I was able to bring Inez in, and I look forward to 20 more years of XP! :D <3

Frito joined May 2003, beginning with Marie-Ange and then picking up Kyle in 2004. She is currently one of the mods.

1) What brought you to X-Project?

As I recall, I saw a post on livejournal by Kielle talking about this new X-Men RPG she'd seen, and she mentioned some familiar names. I took a look, and decided to jump in. I don't remember all my motivations at the time besides "This seems like a fun way to get writing again" and "How obscure of a character can I dig up?"

2) What keeps you in X-Project?

The people. I've kept old friends, made new friends, been to weddings (I made a cake for one of them!), brought friends into the fold. It always comes back to writing, with my friends, and the 'friends' part is the big draw for me. Twenty years is a long time, you can't do that without people who get you, who step up and get creative and funky and bring their best work and their best selves.

3) What's a moment that has really stuck with you that you wrote?

I have to pick ONE?

Marie-Ange fighting an aspect of London - The Lord of Misrule and battling Mr. Punch (from Operation: London Calling) to help save Amanda's sanity. It's not necessarily the first time I got weird with her powers, and tapped into 'how far down the metaphor and symbolism rabbit hole can I go" but I remember sitting at my desk with about 10 tabs of research, and deciding that if there ever was a time for her to go big and get weird, this was it.

4) What's a moment that has really stuck with you that someone else wrote?

Two part answer, because I win at X-Project. Day Zero, Doug and Emma.

Doug and Emma - Day Zero )

This log is pretty much the moment when Twiller decided to take Doug from the mostly sweet canon interpretation to explore the darker side of the job, and his power, and what he could do with it. I got to be part of the discussions about what this would mean - for him as a player, and Doug as a character, and this log has sat in my browser bookmarks until this plot and log:

Twiller took a tiny little micro idea, and ran to the fullest extent he could, and pushed himself past a self-imposed restriction and getting to be part of that was amazing.

5) What is something about X-Project that you really like/enjoy?

Pushing my skills and abilities. Every time I feel like I've stagnated, someone comes up with an idea that challenges me to write more, better. To push into aspects of writing I don't usually explore, or really hone the skills I am naturally good at.

Twiller joined May 2003, beginning with Doug Ramsey and then picking up Sam Guthrie from 2005 to 2007, and then Jean-Phillipe Colbert in December 2007. They were previously one of the mods.

1) What brought you to X-Project?

People. A lot of the folks talking up X-Project were members of the old Subreality/RACMX/ACFF people, so there was a core of names that I was familiar with. I enjoy RP (tabletop or any kind, really), so the combination of familiarity with the personalities and trying a new avenue of RP seemed like a very good fit for me.

2) What keeps you in X-Project?

People. As corny as answering twice the same way might be, in some cases there are people in this game that I've now known for 20 or more years, slightly more than half my life. But I've also grown to become close with more recent players and count plenty of current and former players as dear friends. They've attended my wedding to Frito, we've attended their weddings and celebrated life milestones with them, and I can't imagine a world without the relationships I've built because of XP.

3) What's a moment that has really stuck with you that you wrote?

The events of Day Zero for Doug. The mindscape that he and Emma navigated, the sheer mindbending nature of his battle with Mastermold. In a lot of ways those events are still shaping who Doug is to this day, and the writing was challenging and rewarding.

Doug in the meat computer )

For Jean-Phillipe, Genosha. There were a few times when I dropped nearly a page of narrative on my log partners, with his internal monologue, showing lessons that Magneto had taught him, and new and different applications of his powers. Again, challenging and rewarding situations that couldn't have happened without good log partners, plotrunners, and people to bounce ideas off of.

Battle against Mutate 105 )

4) What's a moment that has really stuck with you that someone else wrote?

There have been a lot. Remy taking on the mantle of Baron Samedi in New Orleans Is Sinking. Marie-Ange losing her eye in the fight with Adam Destine. The brutalness of Laurie's departure from the mansion, and its effects on Darcy. Rossi's masterful socking of John Constantine in the magic library plot. My friends write lots of good stuff. :)

5) What is something about X-Project that you really like/enjoy?

That it's stayed fresh after all this time. New plots, new developments for long-term characters, the idea well hasn't run dry after all this time. The sheer longevity of our game compared to so many that only last a little while is a beautiful thing, and I'm so grateful for it.
