This is entirely Tap's fault. Really.
Here's the question: What was your character like as a baby? From birth to kindergarten, what was Baby!whoever like?
Tapestry: Now I'm thinking of what kind of baby Marius would have been. One of extremes, probably. Fussy. When he was happy he was really happy. When he was upset, though...daaamn.
Tapestry: Doubt he gave his mother even one night of solid sleep.
Sil: He was so one of those babies that total strangers would come up to and coo at. But he was occasionally mistaken for a girl
Tapestry: The ego was reinforced at an early, early age. It was the curls. Amanti probably dressed him up all Pretty, too.
Tapestry: Whereas Marius learned to talk fast, and would. At every opportunity.
Sil: Marius on the other hand would use his cute and charm to get treats.
Tapestry: Yeah, I think Marius was like Davey-level manipulative.
Sil: He also chased other toddlers and gave them sloppy kisses
Sil: then pulled their hair
Tapestry: And then acted totally unashamed when called on it.
Tapestry: If you scolded David once you never had to do it about that again. Marius, on the other hand, listens quietly to the lecture and then turns around and does the exact same thing all over again.
Tapestry: David followed the Rules. Marius only followed the rules if he decided they weren't stupid ones.
Sil: And they were all stupid if they prevented him from getting exactly what he wanted
Tapestry: Yeah, Marius was that kid every teacher dreads having in class but can't like helping anyway. Because they are TOTALLY out of control, but they make you smile.
Sil: Marius fidgeted his way through naptime, then would get up /right/ before it was over and start banging on something noisy
Sil: And then paint a picture and give it to his teacher with an 'I love you, Teacher!' *big hug and sloppy kiss*
Tapestry: Oh god, I wonder at what point the verbal artifice started...
Sil: about thirty seconds after the verbal started
Tapestry: He KIND of gets it from Amanti, but she speaks more like an Oscar Wilde play. Marius' speech is just more...god knows where it came from. At some point he made a decision to talk like he does, because it's Charming.
Tapestry: I did something very similar. For a long time I would speak very properly, and it always got me weird looks. So at a certain point, I think middle or high school, I started making an effort so speak more casually to disarm people. Marius was kind of like that, except I think it was to get girls. -. -
Tapestry: And it's only English. His French is a bit flowery, but proper. Because Amanti would smack him if he mangled French. *g*
Sil: Terry was exactly the same as a baby as she is now. LOUD, small and overwhelmingly cheerful She also liked to bite things
Tapestry: And prone to fits of pique and obstinacy.
Sil: Oh yes. If Terry didn't want to do something, she would let you know
Tapestry: By throwing it.
Sil: And of course, horribly spoiled by her uncle She didn't talk until late and when she did it was whole sentences. Which she lisped.
Tapestry: Hee. Of course she did. That's where all the voice control lessons came from.
Tapestry: David was a good baby, but creepy. Quiet. Slept through the night mostly, but once he could focus on things would watch you in a vaguely unnerving way. Like he was expecting you to say something to him, all the time. And if someone else was upset he was probably inconsolable, which kinda made the situation worse. : )
Sil: He was totally one of those babies that you constantly reassured though.
Sil: And he was a snuggle monster. Never happier than when held even if he wasn't being paid attention to.
Tapestry: Yeah. Because you were kinda worried about him. Didn't seem quite normal. "Shouldn't the baby be crying more? Or at least making some kind of noises?"
Tapestry: I want to say David was probably a slow developer verbally. Not because he didn't get it, but just because 95% of the stuff going on was internal.. And reserved, even as a child. But you know he woudl burst out with intense displays of affection to the people he was close to at seeming random.
Sil: Absolutely. Very quiet, very solemn but if you were close to him, he'd come over every now and again and wrap his arms around the nearest available bodypart and not let go.
Sil: In kindergarten, David was so the teacher's pet. He always got to help set up for snacktime
Sil: Lorna was precocious and started to walk and talk early.
Tapestry: And you know she wrapped people around her little finger when she did.
Sil: But when her parents died, she just kinda stopped for about six months.
Tapestry: Aww. Trauma.
Sil: Then one day it just all started up again and it was like that time never existed.
Tapestry: I think there was rebound. Now she can't shut up. : )
Sil: Alex was totally that little kid who runs up and hugs /everyone/. Even though there's paint on his hands.
Sil: And followed his big brother everywhere
Sil: Scott on the other hand was all focused and serious and even crying was a deliberate and well thought out act.
Tapestry: AHAHAHAHA. "Is this an opportune time to cry? Can I afford to express myself now?"
Sil: "Would crying achieve the purpose of earning me another cookie?"

Date: 2006-09-30 10:48 pm (UTC)I think Jennie was something of a brat. Her mother was never very good at setting boundaries or enforcing them when she did. It's why today if authority figures don't set limits and enforce them, she won't respect them and walk all over them.
She was also one of those kids who would. not. sit. still. And a big whore for afection, since her mother didn't pay a whole lot of attention to her unless she was being bad. And since her mother would be nicer to her if she took care of her, so Jennie really became the caregiver and parent when she became older.
Also? Jennie's hair color when she was a kid was light brown. And it ringleted.
Julio:
Julio cried a lot. His mother died in a car accident when he was two, and his father had to take them to Mexico. So there was a lot of instability and he got some separation anxiety. But he was also a very sweet kid. And probably very shy around strangers.
He was also very physical, his father was always roughhousing with him. He's one of those kids in kidnergarden that you don't notice until it's time for PE. Then he's all over the place.

Date: 2006-09-30 10:53 pm (UTC)Cain: Cain, on the other hand, was a loud troublesome child with tantrums and temper problems. With his mother dying early and his father always busy, the Marko household went through half a dozen nannies (it was the 40s, you know) before Kurt up and married Sharon Xavier, and then the REAL discipline problems started.

Date: 2006-09-30 11:09 pm (UTC)Wanda had a set of lungs on her as a baby and then as a kid, much to no one's surprise. She was a clinger, too, hated to be put down. She tended to be a bossy toddler/child, especially towards her brother. And nothing was safe, she got into everything.
Angel:
Angel was actually a quiet baby who slept for hours...she quickly outgrew this, much to her parents chagrin. Due to spending more time with her dad after the divorce, she really was (and still is) a daddy's girl. She was also a bit of a naked child, hated having clothes on and took them off whenever possible.
(And Moira because it was requested. :D) She was, um, rather spoiled, actually. She and her mom were very close until her mom passed away and then Moira hit her difficult years. The spoiled rotten child grew into a rebelling teen. ;) )

Kyle was that kid who didn't want to get picked up but once he was up, you better not put him down because he'd scream. And he wandered away a lot - he was the kid who, if the doors were unlocked, he was out in the yard. He was climbing out of his crib as soon as he could manage it, and baby gates never stopped him - they just slowed him down.

Dani was very quiet and well-behaved. Very solemn, she would play with other kids, btu only after her chores were done and everything was taken care of. She was very solitary unless she was trying to accomplish something and then she'd enlist the aid of anyoen she needed or would bowl over anyone in her path. She loved to be held, especially by her grandmother.

Date: 2006-10-01 01:05 am (UTC)Amanda: Before Rack took her, she was a very happy, sunshiney sort of baby. Cheeky streak, very stubborn about getting her own way, but Stefan or Kurt could usually get her to behave. Very much the daddy's girl - it reflects in the fact her strongest relationships, apart from Moira, are with older men.

Date: 2006-10-01 05:03 am (UTC)Marie was an easy baby and loved to be held. This continued as she got older - she was that little kid that was always leaning on either their parent or the teacher and she loved giving hugs. She was also the little kid who was always helping the children smaller than herself and loved being around babies.

Date: 2006-10-01 06:57 am (UTC)Remy as a baby was pretty normal. He developed on normal lines, never too fast or too smart, but around the average. Once he was seperated from his parents at the age of three, he went through a cocktail of abuse and deglect at the hands of the Lousianna child care system until the age of seven, at which point he became the property of Henri. Because of this, Remy continues his vast discomfort with children, and suffers from a stack of disassociative issues.

Date: 2006-10-01 05:55 pm (UTC)And because Laurie and Remy can't be the only 'the hell?' situations...
Sofia was. Well, loud as a baby; lots of crying and then later giggling and babbling. She adored strangers coming up and noticing what a cute baby she was. She was much the same when she was a child, always moving, always chattering. She liked bright colours and painting and helping her mother weed the garden. Sofia also was a little bossy, and tended to act before thinking, diving headfirst into anything remotely in her way. She got into a lot of scraps with her cousins. Unlike Paige, though, she also enjoyed wearing dresses and took dance classes with a few other girls from a retired lady in town. She wore ribbons in her hair and liked to borrow her mother's necklaces.
The turning point was knocking down one of her father's buildings and being informed after spending the weekend in a cell that the charges would only be dropped if she was sent overseas. She essentially went through a year of living only half in focus and fully turned off at sixteen, missing the years of developing people skills.

Date: 2006-10-01 07:41 pm (UTC)From birth to about age 4/5, 'Ro was a pretty happy, normal kid. She was a little wild and rambunctious, intelligent enough to figure out ways to get into trouble and (mostly) not get blamed for it. She could always be calmed down by a hug or a touch, though, when all else failed. After her parents died and she was taken into the street gang, she got even wilder and more rebellious... independant, basically. She was still very immature and young, but had to pretend to be tough to get along. She also acted a lot more prickly and didn't like to be touched as much.
