Nicobar Reef - thank-yous
Mar. 28th, 2008 12:16 pmHow I wound up actually doing a Corsair plot in the end is actually a very funny story: I came across a picture of my Scott PB, Josh Duhamel with Tom Selleck (from 'Las Vegas'), and was hit by a thunderbolt of the "MUST DO THIS!" variety. Because as several people have already said to me, in precisely these words - "TOM SELLECK? AHAHAH! PERFECT!"
That said, I have rather a number of people to thank for laying the groundwork (while I was still thinking that I was never going to revisit the 'surprise relatives' theme) and thus making the plot possible:
- Kate, first of all, for wanting Starjammers in the first place (although sorry, Kate, I really can't figure out a logical way to have them CALL themselves Starjammers. Anyone? It actually is a relevant question since I'm not sure what I'm going to call them on the Wiki!).
- Dex, for being a good guy on a car ride a couple of years ago (or so Kate tells the story of a certain challenge she issued), and coming up with a way that space pirates could become plain old regular pirates. Adapting anything to do with the Shi'ar is really kind of the big stumbling block in a game with no aliens. You need a particular type of thinking outside the box for that level of adaptation.
- Dex and Doqz for a different reason - specifically, that Very Long wiki writeup for Madripoor. I will confess I went "Does it need to be THAT long?" when I first saw it. :) I take it back times 2, now, because all of its wonderful specific details were really key to coming up with a coherent background for Corsair's time in Madripoor. I had it open in another window while I was writing up NPC blurbs.
- Nute, for the song-title plot idea that inspired the espionage-and-plane crash part of Corsair's backstory. I had actually had it in the back of my mind for a long time to do that original idea. Instead I wound up mining it for inspiration in a different way.
I'd also be remiss if I didn't take the opportunity to thank the people who logged with me on this. It was one of those Franken-plots (Summers family story + X-Men mission) and that often makes for problems. Given that I was dead of brain due to a mountain of semi-literate papers needing marking, the way you all put up with my pernicious lack of organization and lateness, and still managed to do things that showed off your PCs beautifully was really great. Thank you. :)
And thanks also to Amy, for being so enthusiastic about the idea of giving Scott and Alex a living, piratical father (as well as kindly putting up with my lack of organization, too). Chris will be showing up at the mansion in a week or two for more sedate introductions. :)

Date: 2008-03-28 05:30 pm (UTC)Assumeing Scott named the glider - and assuming the following.
1. The plane was named the Starjammer.
2. Scott does not consciously remember this.
2a. Because he has brain damage!
3. Chris DOES.
4. Chris named the ship for the plane, Scott named the glider for the plan.
5. All Summers men are dorks.
