Thursday Next, the heroine of Jasper Fforde's novels, "The Eyre Affair," "Lost in a Good Book," and "The Well of Lost Plots." They should be all out in the US now, the last one having just been published last month.
Literary fiction humor. In the first book, you find out that the book we know of as "Jane Eyre" ended a bit differently in their world. Until Thursday makes some changes to it, accidentally. See, people can enter the fictional world, and if you enter the original manuscript of a book, you can change every copy of that book. Thursday is a Literary Detective.
Very funny books. I bought the first for my husband for his birthday, and the other two from amazon.co.uk for Christmas (as they weren't out in the US yet...LinGB may have been in hardcover).
