Another instalment of [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com]'s crossover fic, straight from the deck of a very large cruise ship...

Warning: Contains Garrison. Seek medical attention if you get over-excited. ;)

“This is Kane.” Garrison punched the flashing line on his phone and proceeded to spill part of his sub down his shirt. Cursing, he dabbed at the mix of mustard and mayo now smeared on his tie. “Goddamn it!”

“Garrison?” The voice was amused, obviously at his little rant.

“Ms Munroe? Sorry, I- uh, was ambushed. What’s up?”

“I need some information on a pair of FBI agents operating in Miami.”

“Really.” Kane froze for a moment. The Bureau and the X-Men were already enough of a tightrope to walk, but with Pete’s group, it inched closer to illegal espionage. He paused for a long moment. “You know that I can only give you so much. Otherwise, the guy at the next desk is duty bound to shoot me in the head. His name is Paul and he’s not much of a marksman. He could end up shooting me anywhere first, and he’s got three kids. You don’t want them trying to get through college on a disability pension, do you?”

Ororo shook her head, amused as always by the Canadian’s somewhat disjointed train of though. “Nothing sensitive, Garrison. We just want names and pictures of the two agents currently assigned to Juan Vasquez.”

“Hmm…” Kane tapped his keyboard for a moment, navigating the FBI personnel database. “Ray Ernst and Geoff Lowe. I know one of these assholes.”

“Assholes?”

“Miami Field Office. Back in the late eighties, they made a big sting; like, Miami Vice season finale sting against the Ortegia cartel. They led the investigation that got seized over a hundred million worth of cocaine, illegal pharmaceuticals, and US based investments. Florida’s Governor turned it into a successful Senate run. The DEA is positive that both Ernst and Lowe had made a deal with someone in the cartel. After the seizure, the cartel leader was disposed and killed, and a lieutenant named Javier took over. Ernst and Lowe made a lot of money over the next ten years on real estate tied to the cartel, right up until the whole thing was shattered by a Columbian task force after Javier Ortegia had the wrong judge killed.”

“Which left them without a benefactor.”

“Seems so. Lowe’s got gambling problems and Ernst likes girls. Expensive ones. Unfortunately, every time the Bureau’s internal security division gets close, the Senator makes sure the investigation gets killed by the committee. According to the Field Office chief, both of them lost badly in the stock market crash and the real estate bubble collapse. To the point that they were back to living on just their salaries again. It wasn’t long after that they ‘flipped’ Vasquez.” Kane made a sour face. “These guys are dirty, Ms Munroe. Best guess is that they’re essentially renting out the Bureau’s protection.”

“Any chance that it can be pulled internally?” The corruption was nothing new, although Ororo was slightly surprised by the undercurrent of anger in Kane. He wasn’t that much younger than she was, but she forgot occasionally how deeply his belief in the law ran.

“No. They’ve got too much seniority to transfer, and too much influence to pre-maturely retire or re-assign. They might be corrupt, but these guys aren’t dumb. They know just how far they can bend the law before it breaks.”

“Thank you, Garrison.” Ororo thumbed off the cell phone and sighed. This was another complication that they didn’t need.
