Where were you when?
May. 6th, 2014 09:02 pmIn honour of X-Project's birthday this week, a little meme-type thing. Answer as many or as few questions as you like:
1) Where were you (in your life) when you discovered/joined/started reading X-Project?
2) Why did you join/start reading XP?
3) What's your favourite thing about the game?
4) What's your personal moment of awesome/favourite other moment of awesome?

Date: 2014-05-07 01:24 am (UTC)2) Guys I was SO BORED at the time you have no idea. Also I didn't have a really good creative outlet. I saw Kielle talk about it on her livejournal, and mention that Dex was playing Mister Sinister, and I started reading and ended up apping Tarot - who is nothing like her original app. Her original app is hopefully lost to history which is good because it was terrible.
3) Today, it's silly journal threads, tomorrow it's big epic plots like Genosha, Thursday it'll be smaller focused plots like Slendermen. I like it when a plan comes together, and I like goofy journal threads mostly.
4) Slendermen, certainly. Smoothest plot I've ever run. i spent that entire plot delighted with everyone in it and delighted with myself. Past that, looking at Twiller from across a table and saying '.. wait, wait if we made the Winter Soldier a WOMAN?"
4) Also incidentally re-kindling my friendship with Twiller, which ended up turning into a relationship, which turned into a marriage and a tiny baby! (After our parents and siblings and other very important relatives, the next people we told were the XP list! That's how big of a part of our lives this game is.)

Date: 2014-05-07 01:25 am (UTC)1) I was newly returned from my three month Walkabout, moving into my first solo apartment following a rather nasty breakup. Dex convinced me to join while I was unpacking in a heat wave.
2) Heat exhaustion? *grins* Honestly, I'd gotten pretty isolated during my travelling time and I was finding it hard to get back into contact with the comics fandom community that had been a big part of my life, especially after Subreality started winding down. X-Project seemed like a mutant-themed version of the old round robins, with a lot of faces I knew.
3) I love the creativity. And viewing something as fantastical as the X-Men and the world of mutants through the realism filter of the movies. It reminds me a lot of the Common People Project, which I was a massive fan of (I'd provide a link, but alas, there's nothing left of the old archives. So sad). And in personal terms, the progress we've made since the bad patch of 2009. The personality of the game is far different, and much more relaxed and comfortable to interact in.
4) Personal moment of awesome? A toss up between the Bedlam plot, which was terribly self-indulgent but which let me really play around with alternative writing styles; while the X-Force folks did brilliantly in the precursor, Operation: London Calling, dealing with some pretty esoteric instructions, by the way. And the other MoA would be Amanda battling Gladiator in Lakshmibai Raj, which let me write Amanda in a true comic-book style battle, letting loose and enjoying every moment of it.
Favourite Other Moment? Genosha. Hand's down the biggest and best plot we've done so far, so much so it actually knocked the stuffing out of all of us for a while afterwards. ;)

Date: 2014-05-07 03:52 am (UTC)2. I joined because Nichole suggested it. Also, because I have this thing about taking characters other people don't like and making them likable. Thus, my first character in XP - Jean-Paul Beaubier. :)
3. Honestly, I love that I can basically disappear into a little hole of hermit-hood, only to emerge two months later and realize I still have a game to come back to. So many of the other games I've been in have been so massively fast-paced that, if you skipped a week your characters were screwed and you might as well just not even bother coming back. So XP's whole... I don't know, attitude toward everything is laid back enough that I don't stress out all over the place when my RL decides to kick my ass.
4. My favorite moment... hasn't happened yet? Not IG, at least. I've totally written it! There's this Weapon-X arc that's on-going atm and it's my favorite thing. *smiles*

Date: 2014-05-10 03:22 am (UTC)2.)I'd been looking at the game for awhile but never thought I was good enough with that much backstory so I sent the mods a 'hey your game's awesome, just thought you should know!' note and then went along my merry way. Then I decided to go for it and gave myself 3 months to read back story one Jean. I thought about doing Maddie Pryor and even had an app written up before I went for Jean.
3.) Storylines that actually finish. I enjoy working on the plots and peppering in foreshadowing and then seeing it come to fruition, like my own plot DCYE, and Genosha. I like the ability to create fan art and the sheer amount of characters.
4.) There are too many things to name.
