Cain & Forge

Joking about being in love with Forge aside, he's an incredibly fascinating character (so is Cain, for that matter). They both are written with a style that's raw and powerful, that glues me to the seat of my chair with the need to see what happens next. You handle emotions better than almost anyone. Your action scenes are exceptional, written in a way that seems very "been there, done that", which makes them utterly absorbing.

I love Forge's honesty, his logical way of thinking, and the absolutely incredible logs with Jay. I really like how he didn't feel anything at all, I think that's fascinating. I wince at, and yet appreciate the detail with which the extent and repercussions of his injuries have been thought out. I feel sympathy, but not pity, for him, because it's his own fault. The log where you revealed how he got those injuries left me in open-mouthed shock. It was a horrible action to take, but I could see the thinking that drove him to it, thanks to your skillful writing. He's a fantastic character, and he's changed in the best of ways since arriving at Xavier's. I look forward to seeing what else you do with him.

I find your Cain intriguing and complicated, one of the best written characters in the game. I love the way you've expanded and built off of canon. Cyttorak is handled here better than absolutely anywhere else, including canon. I loved the little touches, like bringing in the Dazzler crush. The wariness around Amanda, his possessive of the mansion slowly slipping over into protectiveness of the school, his issues with Xavier. I love the logs with Nate, too. I love the way you've developed his character. It's very right for him to join the X-men. It wouldn't have made sense at all a year ago, but he's been so carefully characterized that now, though I wasn't expecting his request to join the team, it seems like the best possible move for him to make, and bring should about lots of o interesting character development.

If you take requests, I'd like to see more on his Xavier issues, please. ;)

I need to say, right off the bat, that I hate canon Gambit, don't understand why he's so popular, and avoid any fanfic featuring him like the plague. When I started reading the game, I was prepared to hate Gambit. I _wanted_ to hate Gambit. Which is why I'm utterly floored, not just that I like your Gambit, but that I think he's a good, well-written character. He's complex, well thought out, compelling, has some great dialogue. You've thought up some wonderfully twisty plots, and I love how carefully constructed his background is (one of my favourite touches is his plastic skeleton; I love that you put that in there. It explains so much).

I love his current personality, the split between the consummate professional and the young man trying to "find himself", for lack of a better expression. I admit to not caring for his satyr phase, what I've read of it; I like this much better, but it's just a personal preference. Even when I didn't care for him, I had to admit that he was well-written and entertaining.

And (it's a holdover from the my hatred of his comics counterpart, most likely), but I enjoy watching him go through hell.

I think you're phenomenally talented; you do an incredible job with this character, this by far the most enjoyable take on him I've ever read. I'm so astonished and impressed by your writing.

I like to think that's one of those things I bring to the table from experience.

I wince at, and yet appreciate the detail with which the extent and repercussions of his injuries have been thought out.

The other thing I bring to the table! Yay for too much first-hand trauma knowledge!

There's going to have to be an extra-large magazine rack for all these issues.
