May. 19th, 2007 04:05 pmI didn't have a chance to read anything for a while, let alone write any feedback. So this is really, really long and I'm kind of embarrassed by that.
Cruel Country
I like Illyana and I'm glad to see her back in the game. (Same player? I can't remember if it was mentioned anywhere.) I think this plot really pushed her character forward; I've always liked XP-Illyana, but now she fascinates me. The image of Illyana sitting by the phone, alone in the Snow Valley offices, was very powerful.
The psionic tag was a very cool concept, and I really enjoyed watching each of the characters dealing with an increasingly bad situation. The scene with Sarah and Remy and the jeep was my absolute favorite. Remy's resignation broke my heart, and Sarah's return made me fall just a little bit in love with her. Sarah has grown so much as a character over the years, and it's never felt unnatural or forced. That scene perfectly captured the fact that Sarah really has grown, and I loved it. I have to admit that I love the XP-version of Gambit, too, and find him one of the game's most interesting and complex characters.
Mark and Sofia have great chemistry and I loved their bits madly. Amanda and Wanda's plane ride made me laugh, which made me feel oddly guilty. I grinned at Wanda's calling Agatha Harkness for backup.
...Operation: African Clusterfuck would have been the best title ever.
Turf War
Angelo's grown up a lot, and it's always been interesting to watch. He's so adult and well rounded now. He's...if he were real, I'd be so proud of him. His role as Nathan's minder really suits him. His basic story arc has always seemed to be on of change and personal growth, and I've always been deeply drawn to him as a character because of that. I think the contrast between Angelo and his old friends really brought home for me how much he's grown as a character since entering the game. He's layered and three-dimensional, one of the 'realest' folks in the game.
This Savage Land
Damn, this was cool. I didn't have time to read this plot until it had wrapped, but it was epic. It is the summer blockbuster of plots. I loved everything about it, from Cain and Logan's fight on the bridge, to Angelo's impromptu dinosaur rodeo, to the smaller details like the injured kids' increased risk of infection from the jungle environment.
This entire plot must have taken a great deal of organization. I really appreciate how every character had a cool moment; everybody got a chance to shine. Every person involved in this plot, particularly the plotrunner, is a fricking genius. You had a dinosaur attack and you made it make sense.
I loved Pete's encounter with the dinosaur in the coffee shop. It is definitely one of my top five favorite game moments. I loved the very mismatched X-Men rescue team, Medusa's dinosaur ride, Scott and Julio's encounter with the Hellfire Club, Eddie Wyndham as Pietro's former roommate...Hee!
I reread Yvette, Marius, and Jennie's log here while writing this post and now I'm going to hide under the bed until I decide whether it's awesome or creepy. Brr. (I really liked that log, but I may never sleep again.)
Other things that I remember particularly liking:
-Forge got dragged off by miniature dinosaurs and made a bow out of his leg (!)
-I thought Crystal in particular really shone during this plot
-Wanda, Amanda and Monet careening around in the car. Monet kicking Amanda in the head
-Julio and Sebastian's stilted exchange outside the Hellfire Club
-Logan and Cain on the bridge could have come straight out of the comics. I loved it.
-Doug and Marie-Ange and the giant bugs of doom. I really like the interaction between those two. And giant bugs are entirely awesome.
-Lorna and Alex and the exploding dinosaur
-The bit where Yvette got eaten by a dinosaur
-Nate and the giant flying thingies
-Marie and Garrison managing to be excellent chaperones despite it all
-Garrison and Kyle in the log where Kyle's fingers got ripped off
-Mondo being brave and heroic
Remix
I don't have a lot to say about Remix, except that it surprised and delighted me. Just about every log made me laugh aloud. I can't believe you guys did that, but I'm glad you did. (Oh God, poor Pietro.)
Ahab
The overall tone of Ahab seemed really bleak, especially compared to the last few plots. I think the serious tone worked really well; this plot had a sense of urgency that's occasionally missing. Reading those logs, I was genuinely wondering whether everybody would get out alive.
Essex's return was nice twist. I had guessed Rory Campbell would be back from the plot name, but Essex was a genuine (but logical) surprise. One of my favorite things about X-Project is the massive continuity and detailed backstory, and this plot used both of those things to good effect.
I loved Jim and Jennie's log. I really love reading the mindscape descriptions, and I think they're one of the best parts of the game. Forge battling for control and dispassion while dealing with Essex really stood out for me as well. I liked Nate and Kyle's scene in the tunnel, too, I really felt for them both, and Nate's anguish at the situation came across very clearly. Nate and Ororo's log was chilling. Sometimes I forget what he used to do for a living. (But the scariest part of a frequently scary plot, for me, was definitely Rory's last line. "I hear you have a daughter," he said softly. "Red hair, looks just like her mother. Let us give it a few years, shall we, and then see where we are? One generation removed shouldn't make that much difference to me after all." GAH.
The way Yvette hid made me cry. I felt very bad for her. Given her past, it makes sense that the kidnapping would hit her hard, but oh, poor baby. I liked Monet's reaction in the journal comments, too. I really have enjoyed watching her relationship with Marius develop. Mondo and Garrison's log was a lovely human moment. Ororo's emotional conflict throughout the situation made me flail a lot, especially when she raised the tranq dart on Marius. That whole scene was awesome and heartbreaking. And I liked the little details in the journal comments, like Jennie discovering her missing piercings and Marius needing mouthwash. It's these little bits that really flesh the characters out.

That's why I loved that plot, too. *G*
(And yep, same Illyana. :)
I reread Yvette, Marius, and Jennie's log here while writing this post and now I'm going to hide under the bed until I decide whether it's awesome or creepy. Brr. (I really liked that log, but I may never sleep again.)
SUCCESS!
Ororo's emotional conflict throughout the situation made me flail a lot, especially when she raised the tranq dart on Marius. That whole scene was awesome and heartbreaking.
. . . You know, until your comment for some reason I hadn't actually connected the fact that in light of Bleeding (http://community.livejournal.com/x_logs/1553258.html) Marius may functionally be Ororo's student nemesis.
Well . . . at least he's graduating.
And I liked the little details in the journal comments, like Jennie discovering her missing piercings and Marius needing mouthwash. It's these little bits that really flesh the characters out.
Yeah. The fact that they can cover for those times when a player's unable to get their act together enough for an actual log is also beneficial. *coughcoughcough*
As for Rory's creepiness, thank Wanda and Angel's player for that little gift. And the plot.
(And because I've been remiss and haven't brought it up before, we had some great sockers for the Nasty Boys -- Bounce (Monet), Da'mien (John), Lauren (Illyana), Kate (Kurt/Angelo), and Nute (Forge/Cain). I thought they were damn impressive, not the least of which because it's damn hard to log when the participants are on four different continents.)
