Lockheed burped, looking woeful, and rubbed his stomach. Apparently the glowing, bouncing light hadn't been a firefly after all.

Forge felt his face ground into the carpet before the echoes of the gunshot had stopped resounding inside the wainscoted halls. Two agents were already in pursuit, another was radioing for backup, while the fourth currently had her sidearm out and her knee in his spine, pressing him prone.

"Repeat," she spoke into her collar mike, "SMITH is secure. Moving to location Delta."

"Christ's sake, Carlie," Forge grunted as he was hauled to his feet and guided down a set of stairs to the waiting armored limo. "I can take care of myself."

"The President doesn't think so, Mister Secretary," his bodyguard responded, tucking her red hair back behind her ear as she listened to reports on her earpiece, "And apparently neither do the Friends of Humanity."
