New character, and a new comm!

As you would have noticed this week, we have a new character - Noriko Kikuchi, aka Surge from the Academy X comics, who is played by Cora. Plus, as of this morning, we IC-ly have a new comm for the grads/college students to use to bitch about classes, rave about the college social scene, and wail about the difficulty involved in juggling school and training of various kinds.

So, a reminder to everyone to go update your friends lists and add [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] and [Bad username or site: @ livejournal.com] so you don't miss out on anything. :)

Surge is from Academy X (with Dust, Wallflower, and Wind Dancer), not Runaways :P

Surge would probably rather be in Runaways. Academy X hasn't been good since before they brought in X-23, and from all accounts Runaways is awesome. (I think Joss is writing it now, or he wants to. Either way gives that comic a million points over AX. Which I might be bitter about because they killed both Icarus and DJ for no particular reason.)

Actually, X-23 is awesome despite having the most bad-fanfic background ever. Both of the limiteds that flesh out her background and origin are amazingly well-done.

And right now, New X-Men is the only good regular-continuity X-book. (Astonishing doesn't count until they can actually pin down where and when it happens in relation to the other books, with Scott being depowered and all.)

It's the bad fanfic background that makes her such a bad RP character, tho' - she's Sue-fodder of the worst kind, from what I've seen of her, and poor RPers love to jump all over her. Then again, that wasn't much more than her intro stuff and the X-Men:Unlimited episodes.

She's one of those few characters (I can only think of two others) that originated in a cartoon and later got brought into comics canon (Firestar and Harley Quinn being the others).

But yeah, New X-Men is amazingly cool these days. They just wrapped up a very well-done "send the kids to Limbo" bit with the return of Illyana and Belasco.

Renee Montoya as well. (Actually there are a few more in the DCU, I think. And there was lots of retconning that went on with other characters in order to make them Animated Universe compliant. Harvey being the most obvious.)
