There is a mug on her bedside table. And in it grows lavender.

She buys herself a little gold cross, just like his, and wears it to
church on Sunday when her collar is too high for anyone to see.

For a week straight, Illyana has a winter cold. The 'In' and 'Out'
piles in Sofia's office are battling over who will topple first but
she spares no thought in slamming the door in her secretary's face
when she shows up each morning, only opening it briefly to throw a box
of tissues at her head.

She understands her fondness for the strange magician man, and
secretly hopes that Wanda will remember her stroking her hair away
from damp cheeks in the morning.

The three of them have nothing in common but a silent drink together
in the same room and the lack of remorse to kill anyone who implies
otherwise.

She teaches him to count his heartbeat and tries hard not to cry when
that human shaped paper comes back with a hole through it's heart.

They'll never know that they want to be each other, one for the first
time, and one for the second.

The thought curdles her tongue, the mere implication of the cliché,
but in her dreams she sees hand after hand of poker.
