Meme: What If?
Feb. 12th, 2008 11:47 amSomething Dex and I toss around occasionally during pub talk is a sort of 'what if' game in reference to the unplayed characters. Essentially, what would you do to bring back/bring in as a PC and play a particular character, in a way that makes sense given their previous canon? I thought I'd share, and maybe see what other people (not just players, mind!) might do, if given the purely-hypothetical chance.
So, here's the game. Go here, pick a character, and write a few lines on how you'd bring them back.
Meggan is now around sixteen, and well past the childlike speech mannerisms of three years ago. She's also lost the fur and monster-like appearance, having gained confidence with the Szardos clan, especially under the care of Stefan and his wife. The problem is, however, that her empathic-like power is going into overdrive as she enters delayed adolescence, and she's shapeshifting to reflect the desires of those around her, and of course, this is causing issues with the local boys. And girls. Stefan and Mirela consult with Kurt and decide sending her back to Xavier's to learn to control her powers is the way to go. She's not happy about this - her previous tenure at the school wasn't easy for her - but she's also an obedient - too obedient, sometimes - girl, and off she goes to wreck havoc on the school's youthful hormones as she struggles to find an identity that's 'hers'.

Presuming Manuel's still in a coma - Backstory - Charles petitions and gets legal custody of him, as he's believed to be a vegetable, but Charles still senses Manuel's mind. Spends a significant amount of time rehabilitating him psionically and removing as much of the trauma damage as possible. Continue with the idea that Manuel was an ass in part because he could NOT sense good emotions and thus was always suspicious of everyone and thought they were just trying to fake him out. Eventually, Manuel wakes up. Goes through a significant period of physical and mental rehab, as well as therapy and learning to socialize again. First plot: Finding his half-sister and removing her from whereever she was placed after Alfonso was killed. Since she's also empathic (because she's actually a half-clone of Manny, according to the mentions in the game), AND one of the only two surviving de la Rocha's, he feels responsible for her safety.
Re-enrolls in university, decides to study marketing and advertising. Because he's empathic - and in many ways, advertising and marketing is based on emotional responses. Who better to be able to use it to it's fullest then someone who can see exactly how people react to ads? Stays at the school to continue his rehab, and help raise his sister in an environment that will ensure she never becomes like him, and works with the Institute to try to find ways to market mutancy to improve their general image to the public and reduce the damage Magneto does.
He's still arrogant, still can't relate to people who were brought up differently then he was, and he's still manipulative and demanding. You can't change a tiger's stripes. But between therapy and having a family again, he loses a lot of the hostility and paranoia.

It'd be a lot of fun, especially now with a non-sock Samson and some of his more usual stressors (Amanda, Betsy, M-A, etc) now in X-Force and thus not in the Mansion day-to-day...
