Feedback Post, Round Three, Part Two

It has been a hell of a long time since we've done one of these, we've got about nine thousand more people in the game, and it's been a rough month. Time for some love.

Here's how it works - below this post, there will be a comment each player in XProject, with notes on who they play, links to their wiki entry, links to the journals for their characters, and some helpful identifying icons. Because I think it looks cool.

This is part two. Part one is over here. Because there's a lot of us.

Also, like the last few times, Rossi is a wiki editing madwoman and has added the links to everyone's pages.

Angel and Kyle's friendship reminds me of so many friendships that I have. No matter what happens, they'll help each other out, or be there with a hug or a donut or whatever they might need.

Wanda as one of the Perverted Aunties (Auntie Em, Auntie Wanda, and Auntie Betts. I want to also say Auntie Sofia but I'm afraid she'll kill me) of X-Force never EVER EVER stops being fantastic. I love that she'll push herself past exhaustion but pack her teammates and friends off to get mental health and I love that when Wanda does vacation/rest, she does it BIG.

You are still the only player to have written a log that I remember -so- vividly that I do not need to go back and re-read it. You have a gift for chilling and disturbing, and a gift for deeply emotive writing that connects with the reader very sharply.

Also, that Haller and Betsy are one of the more functional couples in the game despite being TOTALLY NUTS is awesome.

Oh my lord, Cammie's a delight. She's very obviously got a chip on her shoulder the size of Texas, and every once in a little while you let us see that what's under the tough and angry and standoffishness.

I am also, obviously, enjoying geeking the hell out with the food thing - but besides my personal geekage, it seems like her food issues are a way for her to separate herself from 'normal people' - they're a metaphor that you use very visibly to show us that she considers herself Seperate and Different.

Players who take over characters amaze me - I cannot, could not do that. And you've already jumped in with Jake, giving us a slightly matured more nervous Jake who still has so much of the previous time we saw him.

From what little we've gotten to see, Johnny strikes me as a kid who wants to be liked and might be trying just a little too hard - in what has to be a new and absolutely overwhelming place - after what had to be already overwhelming circumstances. Definitely looking forward to seeing your take on his precog/danger sense (as one of the other folks playing a precog, I love seeing different takes on it).

Angelo is the best example of watching a character grow up that I can think of. He went from Angry Gang Kid to actually pulling himself up out of the barrio and keeping Nate on an even keel. ;)

I cannot tell you how glad I am to see Kurt's development - you've really done a good job in taking him out of the damaged package that he was after the events of X2, tearing him apart, and rebuilding him to where we're seeing an independent man with self-esteem who is willing to redefine family to suit what is GOOD for him.

Oh my God, I cannot describe the sheer joy that I feel when I see an Illyana thread. You could have at any time, blunted her sharp edges and you haven't - and that is thirteen kinds of awesome. Your willingness to have her tell people exactly what she thinks - even the people who are responsible for her not being dead or in jail in Russia is SO fun to read.

Oh my god, my adoration for Catseye knows NO LIMIT. Also Adri and Kyle working together for that log in MoR, and the log we're doing right now - they're the most unlikely people ever to get along, and yet they do.

(Also, oh my god, if I don't email you in the next week about donig a Marie-Ange and Adrienne log, just have someone hit me with something. Twiller will hit me with a plushie panda, he seriously will.)

And now for confession time:

When you first arrived, I was really nervous about Adri because she's a DV survivor. It's a topic that I am very sensitive about for personal reasons. My nervousness was totally unwarranted because every moment that you have written where Adri reveals her history, or we see parts of her former marriage have been heartbreaking and so -very- well done. Thank you for treating that subject with sensitivity and tact and doing such an amazing job with it.

There's a scene in So You Want to Be A Superhero that really identifies your Amara to me - where they're in the fake jungle and she's trying to reassure the girls with the only thing she can, that it's sort of maybe like where she grew up. Her determination to do ANYTHING to make the situation even a tiny little bit better right there struck me very strongly.

I promised myself I wouldn't use the ogres, onions, layers metaphor here, and I'm going to have to break that because Morgan is really very very VERY layered. Like a 900 layer cake. (or an onion!) - we're just getting to see a couple of those layers and it's really good to read and fun to play off of. Also her "Why do I get the little girl gun?" bit in Godhand was great.

Oh, Kevin. I cannot imagine playing a character who embodies living with a totally shit situation like you do, and he's such a mess and -so- well written and he has moments where you can ALMOST forget that he lives with a absolutely AWFUL mutation. And then you go and cut out our hearts. I am glad you're bringing him back - Kyle and Kevin really need to bond over food.

YOU. Every log we have ever done together has been fun, you challenge me to write some of the most intense logs I have ever done, and you always have something to give me for ideas. And then you go and make graphics that make me jawdrop.

Your versatility amazes me, what you can do with half a sentence of background for an NPC or a half-baked idea for a plot. What you give me for my two, giving me the chance to start Kyle really questioning himself in Keep the Faith and then the resolution in Day Zero with Sabretooth.

Meggan's love of life shows every time we see her. Her exploration of new things and the joy she takes in the new aspect of her powers, and her love of her family is really wonderful to read. I love seeing the many sides of Yvette, for despite her past, is very positive. Seeing how she reacted to kidnapper revealed just how strong she is and gives a glimpse into what she could become.

Zanne and Adrienne in Day Zer0 is one of the logs I have bookmarked to go back and read all the time. You and Mon both captured the fear and tension and the drive that it took them to get the bomb defused while outside, there was a huge fight going on.

Cloud is, pun intended, such a ray of sunshine - her path of discovery of who she was and what she's accepted and what she hasn't, and her discovery of who she is NOW is really good to read.

We write characters who can antagonize each other like NO OTHER. To the point that every once in a while I get an email asking me if I'm mad at YOU. (This never stops being hilarious to me.)

Jubilee's path of self-discovery through self-destruction is hard to read in the emotional way. Seeing her pick herself up, and then fall so far and then latch onto a tiny piece of good luck and use it to try to pull herself back to -anything- good is hell on the emotions.

Oh, Laurie. Oh my god, she reads like another book-smart know-it-all girl who can't imagine WHY people don't listen to her because she's RIGHT DAMMIT that I knew. (I've however, grown up a lot since I was her age.) - seriously, she reads so real to me because there are teenage girls just like her all over the place.

Tabs bravado and the moments where we see that she pushes herself too hard in order to try to catch up with the people around her is done so subtly and so well that it feels like a gutpunch when we find out she's over-exercising or has worked herself into a nervous breakdown.

You write Tatiana as the one member of the New Mutants who doesn't' want powers, doesn't embrace her abilities, and would really be happier never again being reminded that she's a mutant with such a tone of sorrow and despair that it's almost hard to read.

I can't remember who I was trying to describe Marius to, but it came out as something like "Marius is that guy that when you tell him he's being an idiot, he says "Yes, and?" - he's so self-aware in some ways, and so accepting of himself (at least on the surface) - and I have NO IDEA how you manage his 'voice' without wearing out a thesaurus but it is so distinct and so perfectly Marius.

The scene in Day Zero after the bridge fell and Haller's conflict over the Professor made me tear up. It was so perfectly -painful- seeing him choose between personal and necessary.

Doug vs the Meat Machine during Day Zero was one hell of way to get introduced to X-Force's resident computer geek. You completely sold me on the emotions involved in having a character walk into death's maw. But even more than the act itself, it's been the aftermath that's been so affecting. The whole thing's just blown me away.

Poor stupid, snarky, cornered Jean-Phillipe. I heart him like wow, really, and not just for the obvious reasons. There's always an element of excitement involved in watching a character get a bit of the snottiness knocked out of them, because that's where the potential for growth and change come in. I'm eager to see where you go with him.
