The New Mutants weren't SUPPOSED to be going out and rescuing people or fighting supervillains.

And yet they did. Every. Single. Issue.

A late-discovered quality of the X-gene turns out to be a peculiar attraction for a previously unknown subatomic/force-transmitting particle known as a troublon. High concentrations of troublons lead to increased adventuring, violence, bending of the laws of probability, and witty banter no real person would come up with under stress.
